| How to change Google Wave's scroll bar (Windows) |
[ Tuesday, January The 5th, 11:26 pm ] |
I don't have any serious issues with Google Wave's scroll bar. Not really a fan or a "hater". It's just another interface, as long as it works, and for those times it doesn't Wave's not even in beta yet so … {shrugs}
Seems simple enough to me. Click on the arrows and focus moves, bar stays still. Drag the middle section/bar,focus changes as with a regular scrollbar. {shrugs} Simple.
But some people have difficulty with this, or twitch irrationally. These people are silly, as I am well adapted at peace with most any situations, I say "get over it." Yet still they whine, so this post this for them.
For both browsers there are also extensions that notify you when you have new wavelets: Firefox: https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/14973 Chrome: https://chrome.google.com/extensions/detail/aphncaagnlabkeipnbbicmcahnamibgb Must install Chrome with extensions first (see below)
FIREFOX
This tweak was easier on Firefox. Sometimes Firefox can be slower at wave. Though this could also be 'cause it's loaded down with extensions. I've been surprised at how fast Firefox runs on wave on new machines.
This blog entry shows how. http://blog.arpitnext.com/2009/12/normal-scrollbar-in-google-wave.html
In short,
install this https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/2108
then this http://userstyles.org/styles/22837
Done.
UPDATE on CHROME extension (01/24/10) Even on the machine which The chrome extension did work, it has stopped working, so this one has issues multiple machines, machine next version will work out better?
CHROME
I've had issues implementing this tweak on Chrome. I don't know what I did differently if anything, but it seemed to work on a machine running Vista, but not one running windows 7
This blog post showed me how or tried. http://www.uniformedopinion.com/google-wave-native-scrollbars-extension
First you need to install BETA Chrome which allows for extensions. http://www.google.com/landing/chrome/beta/ ¿I'm not sure if this is really another browser? Probably it just swaps out some component to allow for extensions, that pretty much the only difference I notice. I've had no issues with the browser, save some twitch involving GMail loading. I can still get to GMail no issue, just an odd twitch. That might even be involving my particular extensions {shrugs} I don't care enough to search for a conflict.
After than install the extension found on the original blog entry: http://www.uniformedopinion.com/google-wave-native-scrollbars-extension It then either works or doesn't {shrugs}

| Will Journal for Google Wave invite. |

When they first came out two weeks ago I read of Google Wave invites being compared to Willy Wonka's Golden ticket:
Aside of the pomp of the thing, that's obviously an overstated amusement. There were 5 of those ... and much sawed after. Unless it's wildly unsuccessful, Google Wave is likely to be free in a matter of time. Though I request my invite sometime this summer (July?), and I'm still waiting ... every time I check my mail I keep thinking maybe today's the day, more like this:
0111010001110010001011100110100101101101001011110110001001110011011101000110010001101111 ... well at least I haven't had to drink gallons of Ovaltine (yet?).
If it doesn't go without saying if you find yourself in possession of an access Google Wave invite(s) which you don't know quite what to do with, I won't mind unburdening you of it(them‽) .
A reminder of history, though not exactly the same thing, but one which gave me my LJ-code is adored, honored, and attended even now years later. I believe this is happenstance/coincidence, but there's likely gratitude/appreciation to be had either way.
